LOST WAX CASTING
Lost wax casting involves transforming a wax model into metal. An advantage of this technique is that you can repeat a form using molds. Priscila mainly uses this technique to make silver beads. The wax models are joined to a central log like a tree and are put into tubular containers which are subsequently covered with investment (a special type of plaster). Once the investment hardens, the containers are put in an oven where the wax melts and burns completely. In the investment remains the hole with the form of the wax “tree”. The metal is introduced in that hole with the help of a centrifugal machine. When it cools down the investment is broken and the metal “tree” is obtained. The models are then cut from the log in order to work with them. Watch: Repoussé | Pierce | Enamel
